Episode 9: Single-Handedly Defeated

Evan Muse

Current Jury:
Johanus Bartholomew

Voted Out:

Over at the Edoni Tribe:

Friedrich: Things were very itchy and uncertain for a while there. But now I have things figured out.

I was not certain that Randy was 100% truthful. The reason for this doubt was that the votes against Sarah were not as planned. There were 3 votes, but according to what we know there are 4 people on their alliance. Someone over there did not follow through. Although I am grateful for this person, since it was a tremendous stroke of luck which saved Sarah, it also cast doubt on Randy. Everything seemed authentic, but I could not know for sure.

Natalie: Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the wonderful world of betrayal. Heh heh heh. Since Sarah wasn’t voted off, the alliance is VERY suspicious. I couldn’t even get a hold of Sarah, and Fred was very, very untrusting.

Sarah: I've really forgotten which round it is...Well, I've made it to the merge, so I'm happy. Everyone's out to get me. I have not a single doubt in my mind that I'm next.

Tree Mail:

Immunity Challenge 9: Elimination

Mateui: Welcome to the ninth Immunity Challenge. Today, you’ll get to take your own life into your own hands, and try to snatch immunity away from everyone else.

All 8 of you will have their own tower. The objective is pretty simple - hit the other players out of their towers, while staying alive in your own. Each tower is equipped with 5 targets that must be hit. Once they are all hit, that person is eliminated, and the floor that they are standing on will drop, making them fall into water.

You will be given two options of action.

1) Attack.
Simply post: “Attacks: ” When you attack, you throw a rubber ball at that player’s tower. Your time, in seconds, determines what target you hit, if any.

Here is a list of what target is hit, depending on your seconds:
(Second Value/Target)
00-09 -> MISS!
10-19 -> Target 1
20-29 -> Target 2
30-39 -> Target 3
40-49 -> Target 4
50-59 -> Target 5

2) Defend.
Simply post: “Defends: ” When you defend a target, you place a shield around that target, but for only 5 minutes. After 5 minutes pass, your shield is gone. Also, you can only use a shield 3 times in total for the whole challenge. (Shielding is not governed by time in seconds - it is 100% guaranteed, unless you have already used up your shield 3 times)

What the shield does is reduce chance of someone hitting your target.

(NOTE: While shielding, you can still attack. There is no limit to the number or times you attack in a row. I will be keeping track of how many targets everyone has remaining periodically in this challenge.

Immunity is at stake.. Ready? GO!

*TO SEE THE FULL ACTION OF THE CHALLENGE, VIEW THE “MAKING THE CUT II FORUM” – YOU WILL SEE A TOPIC THERE ENTITLED: “Immunity Challenge 9”*

*After all the dust had settled, only one person was left standing and they were victorious.*

Mateui: Jennifer wins Immunity!

Jennifer: I won, this was a pretty fun challenge.

Back at the Edoni Camp

Natalie: I deliberately threw the challenge. Jennifer won. I didn’t even try and I came second. I didn’t want immunity. It’s a burden.

After a quiet day, we had an all out challenge which I was late for, but had I been early, I’d probably have been eliminated sooner. I wasn’t a target until I showed up later in the game, but alas, I lost anyway. Jennifer won, and I wasn’t too worried, until I talked to Natalie for an update with the alliance:

They’re after me.

The blood drained from my face when I heard the news. I sat down and sighed. Fred also suspects/knows she’s working against them, and is committed to making sure Natalie gets what she deserves. Meanwhile, Natalie and I discussed what we could do. It was time to really get in gear and actually crush this alliance. She told me Jennifer was on our side, and was going to go for Fred. Natalie told me that Sarah was also trying to use Randy and Ian, but Ian backed out. If I could get Ian on my side, we could actually kick out an alliance member. After discussing all possible courses of action and what could possibly happen at Tribal Council, I talked to him and explained my predicament. I told him if this alliance lasts, we’re all gone. I also spoke to Randy. I think he was asleep.

Friedrich: Because of these events, my plan was to have my alliance (Sarah for certain, Evan almost as certain, and Randy… fairly certain) vote for Joey. This would help to reveal who stood where for sure.

I talked to Natalie first about voting for Joey. I hinted that she may have been hinted out, and that it could be dangerous to vote against us. She went along with it, saying that she was trustworthy and would vote for Joey (“I have no real ties to him”). This was a lie. I learned this afterwards, when I talked to Ian. Previously, I had sent a PM to Ian urging him emphatically to vote for Johanus. Unfortunately he never voted, but that’s besides the point. While talking with Ian, he made it clear that Natalie was also approaching him, telling him to vote for someone OTHER than Joey. I suspect this person to be me, since I had exposed myself to her, but it could be Sarah again. This was a great blow of proof that Natalie betrayed us. It basically convinced me. Ian seems sincere; right now he’s sitting on the fence. He could go either way. I think I did a good job of getting him on my side. I didn’t want to push him though. He also seemed a little uncertain, so he might even intentionally abstain from voting. If he does this, we should win the round.

But the last blow of proof came last. When Natalie contacted Randy earlier, he played dumb that he would go along. Just now he came on MSN, and he said that Joey Pmed him telling him to vote for me. No more proof at all was needed.

That about sums it up. If this round goes as I predict, I will get 2-3 votes against me. Natalie will get at least 4. Ian may abstain, but hopefully his vote won’t really count. After this, it will be easy to pick off everyone else not in the alliance.

I hope there won’t be a major shake-up any time soon. I think there will be, just to make the game more interesting. Right now, my alliance sort of stands poised to dominate the rest of the game. That’s not very action-packed, so I think a roadblock will be thrown up to add more dynamics somehow… only time will tell.

Ian: It has now become Friedrich, Evan and Sarah vs. Natalie, Joey and Jennifer. One wants Joey gone, the other wants to get rid of Fred. Randy and myself are the loose votes. I pretty much like everyone on both sides, so I’m just picking another target and staying in the middle.

Randy: The pattern of who was attacked during the challenge was clearer than day. My alliance was targeted first, and in my absence, Jennifer claimed immunity. No matter, it was Natalie's turn to go for ruining our prior plans.

I received a letter from Joey.

-----
Joey:We have an alliance problem on our hands. It consists of Fred, Sarah, Evan and Natalie, but Natalie is merely pretending. She's on our side, and Fred accused her of being a traitor. So she's as good as toast.

They took out Johanus. Sarah seems to be behind it. Now, they're after me. Jenn, Nat and hopefully Ian and I are trying to push them back, destroy the alliance so we can restore equality to the game, and we need your help. Sooner or later, they'll take you out too. Fred's the target for now, as he's a bit of a threat anyway.

-----

It seems everyone is clueless to my part in the alliance. Though, I know Sarah and Friedrich are too smart to just go along with my plan, I won't backstab them. They'll be voted off as the final two, so they are my allies for now.

Tribal Council

*The Edoni tribe walked into the Tribal Council area and sat down on one of two benches.*

Mateui: Now, we'll bring in the current jury - Johanus, you're the first and so far only juror.

*Johanus walked in and sat down on a bench opposite to the players.*

Mateui: Tonight, someone else will become part of the jury, but before we get to the vote, I'd like to ask some of you a couple of questions.

I noticed that at the last tribal council, there was an apparent dividing of people - one side all voting for Sarah, and the other, for Johanus. Is anyone suspicious of any alliances that may be going on? Do you feel outnumbered if you're on the wrong side of the fence, so to speak? Do you think you're going to be picked off one by one by this alliance?

Friedrich: I noticed the division. It was rather unexplainable. Right now it has become apparent to me that someone is lying. Very soon, their lies will be revealed. This will be a determining factor in the future of this game, so I advise this person to watch out for themselves. I may be coming off as somewhat menacing right now, but this division is a danger to all of us.

Mateui: Jennifer, you showed great skill in that last challenge, and guaranteed yourself a place in the next round. Did you need that immunity to prevent you from being voted off? What strategy in that challenge helped you to win?

Jennifer: I just got lucky that I viewed it first, I just looked at the list and grabbed a few people and started to try to knock them out first and then when Ian came I was trying to avoid fighting him. I only did strategic thinking for people who had 1 or 2 targets left really, I was also trying to attack people who weren't there yet over people who were there and weren't attacking me, I also was saving my own targets for the end (which paid off from how the others used all of theirs).

I didn't feel that the immunity was needed at all, I was mostly in the challenge to have fun and avoid having some enemy get immunity (that was the most fun I've ever had in an immunity challenge so far). I was thinking about how you said we could pass immunity onto someone else now and was considering passing it on to someone else but changed my mind. Even if I didn't have immunity I doubt I'd get any votes this round.

Mateui: Natalie, you fought hard against Jennifer at the end of the challenge, but she emerged victorious. Any hard feelings toward her?

Natalie: Nah, I don't think so. Like I said before with Fred, the best man (or woman in this case) won.

Mateui: What about everyone else? Will you hold a grudge against Jennifer because she eliminated you from that challenge at some point?

Joey: I hold no grudge against Jennifer. She won it for the first time, and she deserved it.

Friedrich: As to jealousy... I don't feel any. Would immunity have been nice just for the sake of it? Yes. But whoever gets immunity, gets it. There will be many more from now on, and if I harbored hard feelings for everyone who got it, I'd have to hate just about everyone.

Mateui: Anyone can answer this question: Now that we only have half of the remaining players still in the game, is anyone rubbing you the wrong way? Have an enemies surfaced yet, or is this tribe an overall happy tribe?

Ian: I do not believe this is entirely a happy tribe. Nobody is rubbing me up the wrong way, but I do know that there is some unrest between other members of the tribe.

Mateui: Alright - you may now vote.

Remember, you cannot vote for Jennifer, as she has immunity. Everyone else is not safe.

*The players all voted one by one*

*Randy remained silent, a bit angered that he had missed another challenge by not too long. Yet, he shook off those feelings as it was his turn to cast a vote. He quickly scribbed down a name, and quickly expressed his reasoning behind it. Randy did not spend much time deciding nor explaining, and returned to his seat afterwards.*

*Friedrich walks up to the voting device. He takes on long look at the other players gathered around the area. He hesitates for only an instant as he makes his vote.

Friedrich: I am definitely curious as to how this round will turn out.

*Ian contemplated this, the hardest decision he had made so far in the game. What to do? So many options...finally, he chose one, wrote the name down and returned the seat, looking at nobody as he moved.*

Mateui: Alright. I have received everyone's vote (except Evan's, so he'll be receiving a vote for inactivity)

I'll go tally the votes.

*Mat left the area. The 8 remaining players all looked at one another. It was apparent that another dividing would occur this night - but how would it fall? Mat finally returned with the vote canister in hand.*

Once the votes are read the decision is final - the person voted out will be asked to leave the area immediately.

I'll read the votes.

1st Vote:
Evan

2nd Vote:
Friedrich

3rd Vote:
Fred

4th Vote:
Friedrich

That’s 3 votes Friedrich, 1 vote Evan.

5th Vote:
Natalie

*Natalie appeared to be shocked. She didn’t think that the alliance she backstabbed had found out about what she was doing.. The votes continued to be read*

6th Vote:
Natalie

So far, that’s 1 vote Evan, 3 votes Friedrich, and 2 votes Natalie. Only 2 more votes to be read.

7th Vote:
Natalie

1 vote Evan, 3 votes Friedrich, and 3 votes Natalie. This last vote will determine the outcome.

Evan

*Everyone gasped! A tie had occurred in the game.*

Mateui: Alright. We have a tie between Natalie and Friedrich. Both have received 3 votes each - Evan is off the hook with only 2 votes - he will not be leaving the game tonight. Either Natalie or Friedrich will.. but which one?

In the event of a tie, it must be broken by past votes. The problem is both Natalie and Friedrich have 0 past votes. This means that the vote will be broken by another method.

There are 8 of you still here in the game. 3 voted for Natalie, and 3 voted for Friedrich. One person voted for Evan, and Evan didn’t vote. This means that we’re going to have to do a re-vote - but the only person that will be voting is that person that voted for Evan. (Evan himself will not vote because he didn’t vote in the first place). I will not mention his or her name, but they will now have to decide single-handedly who will be leaving the game - either Natalie or Friedrich.

The decision rests in their hands.

* * *

The anonymous person stood up and walked over to the voting platform. They thought long and hard about their decision. They finally spoke:

"Not wanting to vote for one of those two is exactly why I wanted to vote for Evan. However, it seems I now have to make a choice. I have become quite close to both Friedrich and Natalie, although I was friends with Natalie first. All this can really come down to is who do I trust more? I will basically become part of whichever alliance I don't destroy, so it's also a question of which alliance I feel safer in.

And so, making my vote based on the reasons above...I must vote for **THE NAME IS UNSEEN BY THE CAMERA**"

*The vote was put into the vote canister, and the person returned to their seat.*

Mateui: Alright, I'll go tally the vote.

*Mat left and soon returned.*

Once this vote is read, the decision is final - the person voted for will be asked to leave the area immediately.

I'll read the vote.

THE 9TH PERSON VOTED OUT OF MAKING THE CUT II: INDONESIA IS:

FRIEDRICH NIETSZCHE

Mateui: Please bring me your torch.

*Friedrich stood up and brought his torch over to Mat. He looked back at his now crushed alliance and wished them luck.*

Mateui: Friedrich, the tribe has spoken.

*The torch was snuffed, and Friedrich left the area. Johanus, who was sitting in the jury, smiled - he was happy at the outcome.*

Mateui: Friedrich is now the second member of our jury. There are only 7 left of you in the game, and it seems that a lot is going on internally with relationships and ever-changing alliances.

Head back to camp.

Archive:

Joey: You didn't seem to respond on MSN, so I'm voting for Fred. I'm the next target for the alliance now, so the rest of us are banding together in an effort to defeat the alliance.

Randy: Vote: Natalie Kink
Reason: She was going to last longer until she tried to begin an alliance of her own. Actually, I do not trust anyone around me right now, but Natalie is the one who is really involved in rallying others. So, first go the manipulators and then go the followers. It's getting to a really shady game, and I'll go at extreme measures to stay as long as possible.

Sarah: I vote for: Natalie Kink

She betrayed me. I want her gone now.

Friedrich: Vote: Natalie
Reason: She betrayed my alliance. She said she would vote for Johanus, but it doesn't seem like she did. There is also further evidence against her. I think this round will succeed in offing her... there will definitely be a detailed account in my Confessional.

Ian: I vote: Evan Muse

Reasons: Why? Because, well...um...it's sort of complicated. Friedrich, Sarah and him want me to vote one way - Joey. Natalie, Joey and Jennifer want me to vote the other way - Friedrich. And Randy, well....Randy's just bloody oblivious to the whole thing. And to be honest, I don't want to betray either side. So, I'm voting for Evan, because I know he's not a target. Therefore, I'm essentially staying neutral.

Natalie: And here I am, voting for Friedrich. Why? This is a rare chance. You don't have immunity. And you were right; I am not to be trusted. Joey won't be going if I have anything to do with it. I trust him a thousand times more than I trust you. No more alliance, buddy. It's a bad idea, y'hear? The votes for Sarah failed because I didn't vote for her. Therefore, I'm going to give up any chance of winning by voting for you. What the hey, it's a moral victory.

Jennifer: Vote: Friedrich Nietzsche
Reason: Because Natalie said so (after I suggested it to her). Either way if Sarah or Fred falls their alliance loses one person and Fred is weaker so for now we should strike him down and save Sarah for later.

Did Not Vote:
- Evan

(TIE! Between Friedrich and Natalie. Tie was resolved by Ian - who was the only person who didn't vote for either of the two in question)

The Big Reveal:

Friedrich: Damn. Evan’s absence completely ruined me. If he had only been here to vote, I would still be in the game. Ian did what I thought he would and voted for Evan instead of Natalie or I, but with Evan gone, he had to make a choice past the tie. I really thought that he would vote in my favor if he had to choose, but it seems I was wrong. I wonder if he took into consideration that except for Evan’s missing vote, this victory was mine. Instead, he decided to turn it around on me. The entire thing seems incredibly unfair, but that’s probably just my subjective opinion. I still can’t believe he chose to go with Natalie… She fed us bald-faced lies even after we knew she was lying. I don’t think he’ll be safe at all. I was completely honest with him…

Oh well. This is where it ends. I made myself too much of a target. I really expected to last longer than this. I guess I can’t hold any hard feelings for Ian, but I’m really disappointed by Evan. I wonder if there will be an opportunity to get back in the game like there was in the original MTC. If there is, I’ll certainly try to get it, even if I end up cut again soon afterwards.

I was basically the leader of my alliance. Sarah was dependable and had some ideas, but she would basically follow my lead. As far as I know, Evan didn’t even know what was really going on, and just voted where I told him, thinking that he was below me and above Sarah. Randy was a non-factor and potential target until my last couple of rounds when he revealed Natalie. I was something of a puppetmaster, but even puppetmasters aren’t invulnerable.

My main weakness, in the end, was Ian. I should have pursued contact with him earlier and more often. He seemed to have voted against me because he had a longer relationship with Natalie. I always thought that he was an up-for-grabs who had already been grabbed, and mostly left him alone. What a mistake! Communication is key in this game, whether you mean to try and befriend them immediately or not, whether they are your enemy or not. Every vote counts, and communication is the means to sway those votes.

I think I’ll always be bitter about the outcome of this round. I just feel so… let down and disappointed. It will pass, to be sure. But to have manipulated everyone into place just as I wanted, and have one small piece turn against me… The only thing I can do now is influence the jury. I wish my alliance well. Even Evan, although if he is, by some remote chance, a finalist, he certainly won’t receive at favorable vote.
