Yes, those wonderful doors

Body

Have you ever played Tales of Phantasia where you can open the door inside of a building. It looks nice, and you can seperate off certain rooms for realism, but you can only do it with switches, right? Not exactly... There is a much easier and more efficient way to do doors this way.

First off, make your door event. Put it where ever the Hell you want and make the script say something like this.

Set it up like this. Make it the same level as hero and make the event process on however you want it to work, I.E. On hero touch, or Press key.

The script should be set up like this:

Move event: face right
(Sound Effect)
wait 0.3
Move event: face up
wait 0.3 seconds
Move event: face left

Now, this will make the door open. If youre familiar with how to make doors work, you know that whatever you wanted to happen next comes after the door faces left. I.E. A teleport. However, this is inside of a building, so we dont want to teleport anywhere. What we DO want is for the door to get the Hell out of our way so we can do whatever. So, after the script tells the event to face left, use the "Set Event Place" command. Just move the door someplace out of the way.

Where can you move it so that no one will see it, though? There are a variety of ways to do this, but the simplest is to change the event so that it is invisible, like blank character space, and Set Event Place anywhere that the main character cant walk to. Most borders (you know, the tiles that wrap around a room to fill in the blank spots) will work fine.

Just for those of you who dont understand quite yet, here is how I set this up.

Move event: face right
(Sound Effect)
wait 0.3
Move event: face up
wait 0.3 seconds
Move event: face left
Set event place: (Map Position) 000

Most houses that use a border will have the position 000 inaccessable to the hero and since borders are Above Hero, the door will be hidden from sight.

Of course, when you teleport out of the room by whatever means, the door will return when you teleport back. This can be alieviated by a switch.

Well, that was fun, dont you think? Good luck with this tutorial.
