Tutorial on making a opening and closing draw bridge.

Body

How to make an opening and closing drawbridge!

This requires the knowledge of Fork Optns, and switches... If you do not know these, I would suggest spening an hour or two downloading some simple games and n00b tutorials and toying with them and make your own little project, and THEN look at this tutorial.

First, make a castle map or something using the 'Fasade' chipset. You can use a different one in the future, but for this tutorial, I am using 'Fasade'.

Now, you're going to need 5 Switches. 'DrawBridge1', 'DrawBridge2', 'DrawBridge3', 'DrawBridge4', and 'DrawBridge Opened'.

Now, make a guard, same level as hero, push key, and put these commands in him.

< >Messg: Do you want me to open the gate?
< >Show Choice:Yes/No
:[Yes] Case
< >Messg: Hold on sir, I'll get it open in a sec.
< >Wait 1.0s
< >Shake Screen: Power-medium, Speed-medium, Wait-1.0s, Wait Until Done-Checked
< >Play SE: Earth4
< >Change Switch:[####:DrawBridge1]-ON Set
< >Wait 1.0s
< >Shake Screen: Power-medium, Speed-medium, Wait-1.0s, Wait Until Done-Checked
< >Play SE: Earth4
< >Change Switch:[####:DrawBridge2]-ON Set
< >Wait 1.0s
< >Shake Screen: Power-medium, Speed-medium, Wait-1.0s, Wait Until Done-Checked
< >Play SE: Earth4
< >Change Switch:[####:DrawBridge3]-ON Set
< >Wait 1.0s
< >Shake Screen: Power-medium, Speed-medium, Wait-1.0s, Wait Until Done-Checked
< >Play SE: Earth4
< >Change Switch:[####:DrawBridge4]-ON Set
< >Wait 2.0s
< >Change Switch:[####:DrawBridge Opened]-ON Set
< >
:[No] Case
< >
:END Case
< >

There! Now you have the opening script. Now go to the top and click New Page.

Now, near the top-left at 'event conditions' click on the first 'Switch' checkbox and to the right, in the area provided select your ####:DrawBridge Opened. Now whenever your draw bridge is opened, he will do the commands on this page instead of the last.

Now for the commands part. They are pretty much the same, but backwards. Here is what it should look like.

< >Messg: Do you want me to close the gate?
< >Show Choice:Yes/No
:[Yes] Case
< >Messg: Hold on sir, I'll get it closed in a sec.
< >Wait 1.0s
< >Shake Screen: Power-medium, Speed-medium, Wait-1.0s, Wait Until Done-Checked
< >Play SE: Earth4
< >Change Switch:[####:DrawBridge4]-OFF Set
< >Wait 1.0s
< >Shake Screen: Power-medium, Speed-medium, Wait-1.0s, Wait Until Done-Checked
< >Play SE: Earth4
< >Change Switch:[####:DrawBridge3]-OFF Set
< >Wait 1.0s

There. Now you're done with your guard. Now it is time for the hard part (for me, not for you). This will be hard for me because I have to explain this, so bear with me. If you don't understand, at the end of this tutorial, I have a link to a map containing this tutorial. The link will contain all of the tutorials that I do.

Now, start by making four events, same level as hero, vertical, so it will look like this.

E4 - Event #4
E3 - Event #3
E2 - Event #2
E1 - Event #1

Okay, start with the bottom one, Event #1. It should be same level as hero, push key, and use the horizontal wood floor pattern. If you don't know what I am talking about, it is in '*Chipset 1' and it is, starting at the bottom-right tile, 2 to the left, and then 1 up. Now make a new page. This should be 'Over Hero', its event conditions should be 'Switch ####:DrawBridge1 -On', and the graphic should be in '*Chipset 3', starting at the top-right, go down 2. It should be a completely black tile. Now near where you select the graphic for it, there is a 'transparent' checkbox. check it. Now, make a third page (last page), make it 'below hero', 'Switch ####:DrawBridge2 -ON', and its graphic should NOT be 'transparent' and the graphic is the pink chip in '*Chipset 1' at the topleft. Your done with that event! That is the bottom of the drawbridge.

Now, go to the Event #2. The first page should be exactly the same as the first page of Event #1. Make the second page. The second page should again be 'Over Hero', 'Switch DrawBridge2 -ON', and it should use the same graphic as Event #1's second page (the black tile with 'transparent' checked.). Now make the third page. It should be 'Below Hero', 'Switch DrawBridge3 -ON', it should be the pink tile in '*Chipset 1'(the topleft-most chip, it is all pink).

Now go to Event #3! It's first page should be EXACTLY the same as the other first pages. The second page should be 'Over Hero', 'Switch DrawBridge3 -ON', and it should use the same graphic as Event #1 and Event #2's second page (the black tile with 'transparent' checked.). This one and the last one will not have a page 3 because I assume that you have a roof over your bridge, so the shadow (the black tile) should stay there.

Now, finally, Event #4! The first page should be the same as always, and the second page should be the same as Event #3's second page, but instead of 'Switch DrawBridge3 -ON' it should be 'Switch DrawBridge4 -ON'.

Almost there! Now for the finishing touches!

Copy and paste the correct event where they go. For example, the whole bottom part of the drawbridge should be Event #1, like so.
_____________
E4 E4 E4 E4
E3 E3 E3 E3
E2 E2 E2 E2
E1 E1 E1 E1

There! Now start the game, talk to the guard, click yes, and the drawbridge should go up!!
