For Rm2k or Rm2k3

By Tidus560 (musashimiyomoto560@hotmail.com)

4/3/03 : Creation of New Game + tutorial begins.

4/3/04 : Creation of New Game + completed because of the simplicity of it all. Hoping to upload it soon.

4/3/04 : Uploaded WAY sooner then expected.

NOTE: If you use this in your game, give credit to me in your credits. Also, please give a link to my tutorial in the credits so others can use it in their games. Oh, the coding I show here is in Rm2k3 format. Please do not add me to MSN messenger without my permission!

Alright, enough of that. Before we start the tutorial, here is a brief explanation of New Game +. New Game + is an addition to your game that many players like. What it does is this: when the player beats the game, he can choose to start a new game with the New Game + capability. He will start the game all over with the same stats, weapons and items (weapons and items optional), but not the same party and events done. So, now that you know about New Game +, or already did and just read that because it was in the way, let’s begin!

STEP 1) Create a game. Finish the game. Easy enough, eh? Now, go to the last event you made. It should be the one that shows the ending credits. At the very end of the event, enter a message that says, “Do you wish to start a game with New Game +?” or something similar. Show choices, “I’d like that, that I would” and “No, I’m fine, that I am.” or just Yes and No. Your coding so far should look like this:

< > Message: Do you wish to start the game with New Game +?
< > Show Choices: I’d like that, that I would./No, I’m fine, that I am.
: [I’d like that, that I would.] Handler
< >
: [No, I’m fine, that I am.] Handler
< >
: End
< >
If your coding doesn’t look like that, double check everything you did.

STEP 2) Do all of the following in the : [I’d like that, that I would.] Handler! :
After the message and choices, turn on a switch and name it “New Game +”. If you want the player to be able to New Game + multiple times with an event happening for each time, instead make a variable with the same name and add it by 1. Done? After that, turn off EVERY switch you have! An easy way to do this is to click on Switch Range in the Switch Operations menu and range from 1 to 5000, which is usually the most switches you can have. Now, teleport the player to the very first map. If an intro is the very first map, and the hero is invisible in the intro, make sure to set his transparency to invisible before you teleport! Your coding now should be as follows:

< > Message: Do you wish to start the game with New Game +?
< > Show Choices: I’d like that, that I would./No, I’m fine, that I am.
: [I’d like that, that I would.] Handler
< > Switch Operation: [0001 – 5000] OFF
< > Teleport: 0001 : Beginning (001, 002), Retain Facing
< >
: [No, I’m fine, that I am.] Handler
< >
: End
< >

STEP 3) Do all of the following in the : [No, I’m fine, that I am.] Handler! :
Go into the event commands into page 3. Near the end is Return to Title Screen. Click on it. Now, your coding should be:

< > Message: Do you wish to start the game with New Game +?
< > Show Choices: I’d like that, that I would./No, I’m fine, that I am.
: [I’d like that, that I would.] Handler
< > Switch Operation: [0001 – 5000] OFF
< > Teleport: 0001 : Beginning (001, 002), Retain Facing
< >
: [No, I’m fine, that I am.] Handler
< > Return to Title Screen
: End
< >

STEP 4) Do all of the following ONLY if you want the player to lose all their items/equipment, receive a secret item for choosing New Game +, or if you want the players party members to go back to level 1 with horrible stats (but doing that would defeat the purpose of New Game +…). Do all of the following in the [I’d like that, that I would.] Handler!:
If you want the player to lose all their items, here you go (it is recommended that you do not do this because of the extreme time needed!!!). Go into the Item Management command. Set the operation to Remove Item. Select the first item in the menu. Set the amount to 99. Do this with EVERY item that you have. I would put down what the coding should look like, but that would take a while! How do you give them a special item? At the end of your coding go into Item Management and add the special item. Now, to unequip/remove all equipment (Not recommended but not as time consuming as before). Go into page 1 and click on the Change Equipped Item command. The target is Entire Party, the Operation is Unequip Item, and the Slot from which to Unequip Item is All. Now, go back to the remove all items section I wrote above. You have to remove all the weapons in your inventory by doing the same thing you would do with items, only with weapon items. Lastly, if you want to be stupid and drop everyone’s level down to 1 and make them crappy again, go into the Change Level command. The target is Entire Party, the operation is Remove Levels, and the amount of levels is 98. Now, sometimes the experience the character has doesn’t change if you just lower the levels. So, also lower the experience the whole party has. To do this, go into the Change Experience Points command. The target is Entire Party, the operation is Reduce experience points and the Amount is 9999999, the highest possible. There you go, all finished with that! Here is the coding for status drop:

< > Message: Do you wish to start the game with New Game +?
< > Show Choices: I’d like that, that I would./No, I’m fine, that I am.
: [I’d like that, that I would.] Handler
< > Switch Operation: [0001 – 5000] OFF
< > Teleport: 0001 : Beginning (001, 002), Retain Facing
< > Change Level: Entire Party’s Level 98 Down
< > Change Experience: Entire Party’s Experience 9999999 Remove
< >
: [No, I’m fine, that I am.] Handler
< > Return to Title Screen
: End
< >

STEP 5) Now, for the grand finale! To make events for each New Game Plus if you chose to in Step 2. When you teleport in Step 2 after having the NEW GAME + choices, teleport not to the beginning map, but to a special map. In this special map, have an event with Parallel Process, below hero. Set the preconditions to variable (New Game + we called it). Make it Greater than or Equal to 1. In this event, enter all of the coding for the first time you beat the game and choose New Game +. I can’t tell you how to do this, because it is your decision how to make the event! At the end of all your coding, teleport them to the beginning map so they can New Game +. Now, in the event you just made, create a new page. Make the preconditions of this one the same as the one above, except make it Greater than or Equal to 2. Enter all of the coding for the second New Game Plus event. Create a new page for every New Game + event you want, doing the same thing as explained above. Always just change the Greater than or Equal to number.

There you have it, a NEW GAME PLUS!!! If you have any questions, just email me with the email address shows at the top of this tutorial. Or, if you’re lazy, here it is: musashimiyomoto560@hotmail.com
I hope you enjoy this tutorial!
