Pretty descriptive tutorial on how to make a chocobo system for your game, you can of course call it what you want.

Hello, this is my first tutorial I've invented, so I would like to see some comments and suggestions..
Enjoy.

-------Chocobo Tutorial
What you need to know:
Variables
Forks
Switches
Items and Common Events
Hero Database
Vehicles
Tiles/Chipsets/Terrains

Ever played Final Fantasy VII? I'm a big fan of it... you buy a Chocobo Lure Materia and equip it to catch one chocobo at the footprints and runs away after you dismount it.And you could keep up to six at a time at the chocobo farm. But on this one is different....You can only have one chocobo and he will stay with you...And he will be one of your allies. And also, you will get in battles while riding it.

First, goto the Database for RM2k. Go to the "Hero" database. Make a hero. Call it "Chocobo" or whatever you like. After that, Don't equip him ANYTHING. If you like, you could just make him equip a weapon named "Claw".
Checkmark the "Equipment Fix" option. And make your Chocobo's level up to 4.ONLY FOUR(4).And make his current level to level 01. And set his walking sprite to a "normal" chocobo. Then, goto the Vehicles section. Since RM2k only has up to three vehicles you must change only one vehicle you won't need in the game. I'll choose Boat....Then, change the vehicle's sprite to the normal chocobo sprite.. Then, goto the Terrains section..Make a new Terrain called "Mountain" if you don't have it...Then you should check only the "Passable by Airship" and its picture shall be a "Canyon" picture. This might have been in your RTP Backdrops files.....Then....Copy and Paste one time the Mountain,River, and Ocean Terrains. And on the ones you've duplicated, add a "2" on each duplicated terrain. This way you would know which one it is. Now, on the Mountain 2 Terrain, check the "passable by ChocoboVehicle". ChocoboVehicle means the vehicle you replaced with the Chocobo....On the River 2 Terrain, check the "passable by ChocoboVehicle". And on the Ocean 2 Terrain, check the "passable by Chocobo Vehicle" again...Now, goto Chipsets section and copy your original World Map Chipset and paste it down 3 times. On your first pasted world map chipset, call it "Worldmap-River" or whatever you want to call it. and then on the "river" chip on the chipset, set the number to the "River 2" terrain number. Then on the second, call it "Worldmap-River-Mountain" Or whatever you want to call it. And then on the "river" and "mountain" chip, set the "river" chip to the number terrain of "River 2" and "mountain" chip to the Terrain number of "Mountain 2". On the third, Put the number Terrain on the "river" chip to "River 2". And on the "mountain" chip, Put the Terrain number of "Mountain 2" on there. And on the "Sea" or "Ocean" tile, Put the terrain number of "Ocean 2" there and call it "Worldmap-River-Mountain-Ocean".
Then, goto the Items section. Make some items. Call an item "Gysahl Greens" and it's cost could me 300 or more... It would be a "Switch" type. Make a switch and call it "Gysahl Greens".And "Use number of times", put only 1.Then, on the Common Events area, make an event there and call it "Gysahl Greens" Set it to "Auto Start" and check the "Appearance Conditions Switch" And put your Gysahl Greens switch. Then, on the events inside it, put a Fork. Goto the 2nd page, and Check Vehicle. And choose the vehicle you replaced as a Chocobo.Check the "Else Case". Click "Ok". And then, on the Else Case, put
a message saying, "You are not riding a Chocobo."
And then put an "Add Item" event.
Find the Gysahl Greens item and increase it by 1.
Because if you don't add this, you would lose it without using it. And on the "End Case", put a Switch and find your Gysahl Greens and set it to "Off". Click "OK" and then inside the Fork, You have 2 options to use on this. And choose only 1 of these for the item:

1)The item is for increasing ChocoboVehicle's speed. If you chose this, put a "Move Event" event and select your ChocoboVehicle. And add only 1 "Move Speed". And then put a Message "Your Chocobo's speed increases by 1 point."

2)It could be to increase your Chocobo's Statuses...If you chose this, Put each "Change Ability" Event and Select your Chocobo Ally. And then select the "Max HP" and increase it as much as you want. Don't try to increase it too much or too low, because then it would be cheap and expensive...Maybe up to +20. And do the same thing for the other abilities of your Chocobo ally but his EXP and Level.

There we go! If you like, you could make some skills for your Chocobo, make some like Chocoprotection, it would cost 10 MP and used on one ally. And on the "ability up", Check the "Defense" and maybe the "Agility". And set the graphic of the skill. Once you're done with making the Chocobo's Skills, go back to the Hero section and goto your Chocobo ally. and on his "Skills" put up all of his skills. And set each skill "Level" to 1. Now, goto the Monsters section...Make a Monster and call it "Chocobo" Make the status of this enemy the same as your Ally Chocobo's to make it a bit realistic. And put all of your Ally Chocobo's skills to the enemy Chocobo. And then put "Attack" , "Defend" , etc. on his attack patterns. The combination is up to you. And set the graphic to a Chocobo picture or a Chocobo-like picture. Then, on the "Monsters Party" Section, goto an empty Monster Party and put only your Chocobo Enemy there. And then, make a Chocobo farm, or atleast a "Person" event and put up a "Call Shop" Event. Put only the Gysahl Greens there. and put the dot on the "No sell". After this, you want to try to catch a Chocobo, right? You're pretty close to the end..! Around the World map, put a "Chocobo footprint" or a just a "Long Grass" Tile. It's a different type of Grass though..a Very Dark Greenish grass. and then make an event there....Call it "Chocobo Catch" or something... Set it to "On hero Touch", and also "Below Hero" and no sprite for it. And put a check on the "Items", and choose "Gysahl Greens".It will be like a Chocobo randomly comes and wants to take your Gysahl greens, but you gotta defeat him. And then on the Events, make a Variable, call it "Random Chocobo encounter"... and then on the Variable, check the "Random Number" and put a 1 on the first and 100 on the second. And then, put a Fork, and goto the 1st page and check on "Variable" and select your "Random Chocobo Encounter" Variable and choose "same" and check the "Set" and put a number. I would put "50".And check the "Else Case" Then, inside the fork, put a "Start Battle" event and choose your Chocobo Monster Party...Then, goto the "Memorize location" event, and make 3 variables... Put Variable's names: "ChocoboID" "ChocoboX" and "ChocoboY".Then put a "Set Vehicle" event and choose the "ChocoboVehicle" and select "By Variable" and put the "ChocboID" "ChocoboX" and "ChocoboY" variables in the correct order. and then put a "Move Event" event command and select your "Chocobo Vehicle" and put a "Jump" , "Move away from Hero" and "End Jump". So he wouldn't stay on top of you....And then, put a "Switch" event. Select a new switch and name it to "Caught Chocobo".And set it to ON. Click "OK" and make a new page.... on the second page, Select the "Switch" on the top left corner of the Event Screen, and choose the "Caught Chocobo" Switch. and Click "OK".... There you go! You've made a Chocobo catching system! Just a few more things now....Copy the "Chocobo Catch" event or whatever you called it and,... paste it around the grass from left to right, down to up... even in the center. To make this easy to understand, paste this in every Dark Green Grasses Tiles... And last things, make 3 events on the world map,

On the first, set it to "Parralel Process" and on the events, put a Fork. Select the 2nd page and check on your "Chocobo" ally... now....Select the "..." button and put the dot on the "Level" and set it to 2. Select "Else Handler" and Click "OK". Inside the Fork, put a "Change Chipset" Event and Select your "Worldmap-River" Chipset. And then Put a "Change Vehicle GFX" event and change it to a "Light-Blue" Chocobo Sprite. And then, add a "Change Hero Walk GFX" Event and select a "Light-Blue" Chocobo. Now this type of event will allow your Chocobo to cross rivers.

On the second, set it to "Parralel Process" and on the events, put a Fork. Select the 2nd page and check on your "Chocobo" ally... now....Select the "..." button and put the dot on the "Level" and set it to 3. Select "Else Handler" and Click "OK". Inside the Fork, put a "Change Chipset" Event and Select your "Worldmap-River-Mountain" Chipset. And then Put a "Change Vehicle GFX" event and change it to a "Green" or "Red" Chocobo Sprite. And then, add a "Change Hero Walk GFX" Event and select a "Green" or "Red" Chocobo Sprite. Now this type of event will allow your Chocobo to cross rivers and Mountains.

On the third, set it to "Parralel Process" and on the events, put a Fork. Select the 2nd page and check on your "Chocobo" ally... now....Select the "..." button and put the dot on the "Level" and set it to 4. Select "Else Handler" and Click "OK". Inside the Fork, put a "Change Chipset" Event and Select your "Worldmap-River-Mountain-Ocean" Chipset. And then Put a "Change Vehicle GFX" event and change it to a "Dark-Blue" or a "Black" Chocobo Sprite. And then, add a "Change Hero Walk GFX" Event and select a "Dark-Blue" or a "Black" Chocobo Sprite. Now this type of event will allow your Chocobo to cross rivers,Mountains, and Oceans...

And, once you did all of this, Put another "Parralell Process" Event on the world map and put a Fork and goto the 2nd page, Select "Vehicle" and then select your "ChocoboVehicle"... And check the "Else Case". Inside the fork, just put a "Change Party" event and select your Chocobo Ally and add him...
NOTE:You must atleast have a maximum of 3 people in your party. Because RPGMaker2000 doesn't let 5 or more people in the party.
And on the "Else Case", put "Change Party" event and select your Chocobo Ally and put it to "Remove". Click "OK".
And last thing, on each town, city, dungeon,etc..., you have to put each fork on it. Select the Fork event, goto the 2nd page and select Vehicle "Chocobovehicle". and basically put nothing inside the Fork. And on the "Else Case", you put the Teleportaion event to that area.

That's all, folks. Hope you all enjoyed it and I hope it's better than Atari's, but... I guess not, lol...If you wish to use this tutorial in your game, give me some credits...
