A newbie tutorial that shows how to make a "telescope" that allows you to see a few tiles farther, for a limited amount of time.

Okay, the title isn't that great. Anyways, this system will tell you how to let the hero see a bit farther than the normal screen view. You will need expeirience in:
-Switches
-Common Events
-Switch Items
-Pan Screen
-Fork Conditions
Let's start. Make an item called "Telescope" or something. Make it's price, description, etc. anything you want. Make it "Switch", usable only on field, infinite use, and have it trigger the switch "Telescope".
Then, make a common event, auto start. Make it's starting switch the switch "Telescope". Here's how the code will work: Make a fork condition to see which direction the hero is facing, then pan the screen a few tiles in that direction. Simple? Anyways, here's the code:
<>Fork Condition: Event Hero is Left Facing
<>Pan Screen: Left 5 (you can change the number of tiles you pan)
<>Wait 2.0 Sec (you can change this)
<>Pan Screen: Reset to Hero
<>ELSE Case
<>Fork Condition: Event Hero is Right Facing
<>Pan Screen: Right 5 (you can change the number of tiles you pan)
<>Wait 2.0 Sec (you can change this)
<>Pan Screen: Reset to Hero
<>ELSE Case
<>Fork Condition: Event Hero is Up Facing
<>Pan Screen: Up 5 (you can change the number of tiles you pan)
