Greetings to every single person to read my (lousy) tutorial. I’m TheMightyTim and I’m here to tell you some little things about RM2K(3).

III: Phobias and altitude?
------------------------------
Yes. Phobias and altitude. These two terms are what makes this tutorial so special. Phobia is derived from the Latin word for –fear (e.g. agoraphobia is fear for wide open spaces agora = square or wide, open place). And altitude in the way of physical changes (e.g. ever used the TGV to get from England to France? Or ever climbed a high mountain? Then you’ll know what I mean) like your ears begin (at far stages) ringing, and your throat feels swollen. So I’m going to learn you a bit more.

IV: Written tutorial
------------------------
A: Phobias
-------------
We’ll start by picking one random phobia, as long as you know what it is. For this example, I’ll take claustrophobia (fear of closed in spaces) so I’ll start by creating a new condition called “C.Phobia” and a switch named the same. First of all, I make it Persist After Battle, since if you in a closed space, it doesn’t matter if you are fighting or if you aren’t. I’ll make it halve attack and halve agility, for the “walls creep up to you” effect, you can of course, make it have any effect or name that you want, and I’ll make every susceptibility except for E 100%. Then I’ll go and create a new map which I henceforth name Map A (made up pretty good hey ;) ) make it a dungeon map, you however may make it anyone map you like. Then I’ll make most of the map big except for one small, but long hallway (if you’ve got agoraphobia, you’ll do the exact opposite, if you’ve got hydrophobia, what that character is afraid of, et cetera) and I’ll create a Touched By Hero event after a number of steps, put it Below Hero and if ???.Phobia is on. Then I’ll make it so that the Hero doesn’t have trouble from the phobia. Behind that one, I’ll put another event, also touched and below, but without the switch. Then I’ll put Change Condition, ???.Phobia (If I type ???.Phobia, then I mean the phobia that was used.) add, all party members(unless you’ve got specific characters that have the phobia). Then I’ll do the same at the other end of the passage and try it out.

B: Altitude
-------------
Ahhhh, the Lost Son. The thing about this is that it can be easy, if you know how to do it. We’ll start by creating a new condition, called Altitude. Persists after Battle and all Susceptibilities 100%. I’ll also create a switch of the same name (the condition is just to show it to the player). Then I’ll go to custom events and create an event by the name Altitude.. I’ll put a Conditional Branch and have it say that if Hero XXX (you just change XXX with the name of your hero) has got the Altitude condition, the action Memorize BGM happens and it slowly fades out. Then in the Else handler, I put the Play Memorized BGM.

V: Coding
------------
A) Phobias
-------------
F8, Condition, Array size, arrow up, change the name of the new condition to ???.Phobia. Persists after Battle. Susceptibility 100% for all but E. -50% Attack and Agility. New map “Map A” Lay out map. New Touched By Hero event, called Health Event, Below Hero, if switch ???.Phobia is on, Change Character Condition ???.Phobia, change switch Off ???.Phobia. Behind it another event, same set up, but without switch ???.Phobia. Change Character Condition, Add ???.Phobia. Change Switch ???.Phobia on. Idem for other side of Hallway, open place, bridge, …

B: Altitude
-------------
F8, Condition, new, Altitude, Persists after Battle, Susceptibilities 100%. New common event Altitude Parallel Process, triggered by switch Altitude. Conditional Branch If Hero XXX has condition Altitude, Memorize BGM, Fade BGM 20 sec. Else case Play Memorized BGM, turn switch altitude off. New map “Map B” high map, new event, A. off Touched By Hero, Below Hero. If switch altitude is on, change condition, Hero XXX, remove condition, Altitude. Change switch, Altitude, off. Behind, Event A. On Touched By Hero, Below Hero. Change switch Altitude on, Change Condition, Hero XXX, Altitude on.
